About us

Savvy Green Business Solutions was created to address the catch-22 faced by Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs): the desire to travel a more sustainable path whilst lacking the knowledge, time and budget to action their ideas.

SMEs account for 99.9% of the UK business population. They’re the backbone of our economy. So, why do they lack the right support when it comes to adopting more planet-positive ways of working?

Using Inspection, Route Planning and Communications, we’ll help you grow into a long-lasting, genuinely good business.

All our services are aimed at unburdening you as much as possible – maximising the opportunities provided by being sustainable – gaining you competitive advantages whilst simultaneously making the world, and your business, better.

What makes us different?

  • As the little guy in the David Vs Goliath story, we think SMEs deserve a little extra care. The “big guys” have an army of resources available. SMEs, in comparison, face the challenges of limited resources, time and knowledge.

But, we know they have secret powers! Big businesses are like sluggish super tankers that find it hard to change direction. SMBs by comparison are agile, free-thinking ships, much more able to innovate and adapt to change.

And we guide businesses towards a greener future – because every small business having a positive impact, is a victory on our shared journey toward a better planet.

  • By hiring a small consultancy, you can take control of your sustainable journey without worrying about a big price tag.

We don't upsell or pressurise. We’ll work with you to find solutions suited to your business and budget.

  • Your business may want to make the changes needed to embrace a more planet-positive future, but the process can seem overwhelming.

When employees are already challenged and stretched, releasing the resources and hours to take a sustainable course of action may seem difficult to prioritise.

Use us as much or as little as you need — from one-off coaching sessions to becoming a part-time extension of your team. No expensive permanent headcount, no unnecessary complexity.

  • As a boutique consultancy, our approach isn’t templated — it’s tailored.

We believe success lies in listening, understanding and creating results-driven solutions unique to your business.

You can expect us in your corner cheering you on, giving step-by-step instructions, and answering questions every step of the way.

  • Our services are designed to show you exactly how to put sustainability into practice and see real results.

All that nitty-gritty, behind the scenes sustainability work and communications planning? That’s our happy place.

    This might look like:

    • A 1:1 chat

    • Supportive coaching sessions

    • Event organisation

    • Understanding your impact so you can get started

    • Creating an action plan

    • Or end-to-end project creation, launch and communication

  • Whilst they’re awesome and can teach us lots, we don’t only team up with established eco-warriors. We’re on a mission to support anyone that wants to sprinkle a bit of goodness into their business.

Whether you're new to sustainability, need an expert on hand, or have tried starting a programme without much success — we’ll help you make changes that can save money, outshine your competition, give you a purpose beyond profit and offer your stakeholders the transparency they crave.

  • You might have heard of the UN’s SDGs, B-Corporations and other sustainable accreditations and feel pressured to get one.

We'll help you find the right path for your business. That might include using a recognised framework or working towards an accreditation, but only if it's right for your business.

That being said, undertaking a B Impact Assessment (BIA) is a fantastic and free way to find out more about your impact. You can do the assessment to test the waters – without having to get fully certified.

There’s no fear mongering or forceful tactics involved – just suggestions of what you can manage as a business.

Don’t just take our word for it

  •  Alice is a very strong sustainability strategist and communicator. She understands the social and environmental agenda and recognises the role that communications can play in creating change.

  • Talk about a full-service experience. Savvy Green were knowledgeable and efficient. I would happily work with them again.

  • In the past we’ve had to immediately reach for the metaphorical red pen and start to edit. Alice’s work was great on the first draft. I loved how she captured our tone of voice and made the articles relatable to our visitors.

Alice Thornton-Smith

The founder

I have over 15 years of experience in sustainable and socially responsible transformation and communications: in SMEs like Red-Inc, charities like Say Aphasia, specialist sustainability consultancies, through to large multinationals like Canon, Lucozade Ribena Suntory and Grundfos.

In the world of sustainability, you might call me an ‘old-timer’. After spending time in the corporate world, I found myself drawn to environmental and social responsibility. After getting a degree in environmental management, I found myself in a world where sustainability was still seen as a nice-to-have, a box-ticking exercise used to bolster a company’s image. Fast forward 15 years and the world is a very different place.

Our planet is at breaking point and people, businesses and governments are realising the size of the challenge ahead. The upside is we can all play our part in becoming the solution.

Having worked on sustainability projects for companies of all sizes, I grew frustrated seeing countless SMEs being left behind. Unfortunately, big businesses often wield more money and power. What about the little guys? There was a lack of support tailored to SMEs, and I saw an opportunity to help.

Every step that a small business takes on their journey to net zero adds up – not only in protecting the future of our planet but in future-proofing their business, reducing costs, attracting new customers and creating new growth opportunities.

That’s why I created Savvy Green Business Solutions, to allow the little guys to make the right changes and talk about the results with pride!

Common challenges for SMEs

Common challenges for SMEs

Man holding his head in his hands with a frustrated expression, representing the overwhelm small businesses feel around sustainability.
  • You’re too busy focusing on the practicalities of scaling a business to make sustainability a priority.

  • You’re tired of umming and ahhing whenever a client or stakeholder asks about their environmental commitments.

  • There’s a lot of noise in the sustainability space and trying to figure out the dos and don’ts is a full-time job in itself.

If you’re done with treating sustainability as a problem and are ready to turn it into an opportunity, let’s get to work.
